Privacy

Your day stays yours.

sidequest is designed to work on your device. It has no accounts, runs no analytics, and includes no advertising or third-party tracking. There is no sidequest server: the app does not send your activity, memories, notes, or photos to us.

iCloud sync

Your journal, quests, notes, photos, and preferences sync across your own devices through your private iCloud account (Apple’s CloudKit private database). There is still no sidequest server and no sidequest account; this is your data in your iCloud, governed by Apple’s iCloud terms. You can turn iCloud off for sidequest in iOS Settings.

Quests with friends

This is opt-in and off by default. If you turn it on and forward a quest, the quest text, your display name, and your note travel inside the share link itself that you send over Messages. There is no sidequest server in between, but the link carries this data, so anyone you send it to (and anyone the message reaches) can read it. Treat it like any message you send. Photos are never included in a shared quest or sent to a friend; they only ever sync within your own private iCloud (if you have iCloud sync on). You choose when to share and with whom; nothing is sent automatically.

What stays on your device

Location

If you grant permission, sidequest uses your approximate location to pick a quest that fits where you are and to fetch local weather. Your location is used on your device and is not stored by sidequest or sent to any sidequest server. To retrieve weather, your approximate location is sent to Apple’s Weather service; that processing is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. You can decline or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings; the app still works with a more general selection of quests.

Weather

Weather conditions are provided by Apple Weather (WeatherKit). See Apple’s weather data sources.

Notifications

If you enable the daily reminder, it is scheduled locally on your device at the time you choose. No reminder content leaves your device.

Children

sidequest is a general-audience app and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone.
